Lady Danville

So I was doing sound for a concert a short while back that turned out to be a nice little surprise. You know those concerts you go to where you end up liking the opener way better than the headliner.  Well, I was lucky enough to have one of those recently. Though L.A. locals, The Rescues, put on a decent show, my hat goes off to openers Lady Danville. The three piece, consisting of a piano, cajon, guitar and three part harmonies, nailed it. Their take on pop folk was refreshingly smooth and quite The Dodos-esque. I wouldn’t be surprised if these guys took off by the end of the year. They are still unsigned  and only have one self-titled, five song EP out right now, but some shows with Anberlin and Jack’s Mannequin later in the year should give them a nice boost. Plus, they are super chill and some of the easiest guys to do sound for, big plus.

My favorite track – “Tired Magician” http://listen.grooveshark.com/#/s/Tired+Magician/2rPsYX

The Dodos Embrace Album Leak

Posted: July 25th, 2009 | Author: Nathan | Filed under: Articles About Music | Tags: | Comments Off

The DodosLast week the upcoming Dodos album leaked onto the internet for all the world to hear.  Instead of freaking out and trying to control what can’t be controlled, they decided to just roll with it.  So they set up a high quality stream of the new album @ TimetoDie.net and they pushed the release date up from Sept. 15th. to July 28th.  You can also pre-order the new album on cd or vinyl.

I just absolutely love the way they handled this crappy situation.  They knew they couldn’t control it and that there was nothing they could do to stop it once it was leaked, so they decided to focus on what they could control.  It just makes me want to buy their album on principle alone.  Fortunately it is a pretty enjoyable album.  I’ve only listened to it once, and it was pretty stinkin’ enjoyable.

The Dodos Announce New LP

The Dodos - Time to DieI never really got into Visiter, the 2008 sophomore record from The Dodos.  But I did listen to the single “Fools”  quite a bit.  It had an addictive rhythm, and I just loved the “ooh” refrain that came after the chorus.  But that is beside the point.  The Dodos have announced the release of their third full-length record.  Time to Die is due out September 15th via Frenchkiss Records.  Even with Phil Ek (Built to Spill, Fleet Foxes, The Shins) behind the soundboard, according to the press release, we can still expect “the punchy percussion of Logan Kroeber and the Fahey-infused finger-picking of frontman Meric Long.”  I’m looking forward to listening to this one.

Tracklist for Time to Die

01 Small Deaths
02 Longform
03 Fables
04 The Strums
05 This Is A Business
06 Two Medicines
07 Troll Nacht
08 Acorn Factory
