So this week’s selection isn’t technically a “music video.” But it is a video that has music in it. And it was createad by none other than our very own music video contributer Justin MetCalfe. This short film entitled “This Camera Is Lovely,” stars Nathan Hollis and Suzanna Green and features the music of Charles Mingus. I did a quick iTunes search to see if I could figure out what song Justin used for this video. Although I couldn’t figure out what it was, I did learn that I really enjoy this Mingus fellow. It is funny how a genre can just slowly creep up on you. I am finding more and more Jazz music slip into my music library these days. Well I hope you enjoy the video, and I encourage you to take the time to explore the Charles Mingus catalog. It will be well worth the trip.
It’s been a while since we’ve had Music Video Mondays and I for one have missed them. So here I come to the rescue to bring you all a fantastic video from none other than our once regular music video contributer. I bring to you all today a video that our very own Justin Metcalfe has made for a gorgeous instrumental by The Album Leaf. Justin really shows off his talent here. With hardly any action at all, set to an instrumental track, he still manages to suck you in. Just click on the link below to watch the video.
Sometimes when I feel like wasting time at work I hop on the ol’ interweb and look for inspiration in music video’s. I usually don’t feel guilty about this since I am a videographer (shameless plug to come later), so I consider it “research”.
My hope for this weekly segment is to highlight a music video that features both awesome visuals and awesome music, but the priority will go to the visuals (because lets be honest, sometimes an awful band will make an awesome video, and vica versa).
I figure I better start this segment off with a bang, so here is my first highlight:
I love when the director for a video comes up with a really simple idea and executes it really well. There is not really a story to this video, but it is still fun to look at.
one of my very best friends, who goes by the name of justin metcalfe, has just started making music videos and he is quite good. his first project here is a video he made to accompany the lovely andrew bird song, “yawny at the apocalypse.” now you’re not gonna be seeing this on mtv any time soon. but for a “no budget” film, it is pretty dang good. hopefully this will be the first of many. hope your ears and eyes bleed.
