La Otrabanda

A while back I introduced you to the band La Otrabanda.  After I featured their video as the “music video of the week” they were gracious enough to contact me and thank me, and they offered to let me have a preview listen to their album Pueblo vivo/ Vibrant People. Not having heard a lot a lot of music from Venezuela, their home country, I was not sure what to expect.  I was pleasantly surprised by an eclectic sound featuring myriad of instruments (including bagpipes in the song “Pasaje“), and several rhythms I don’t often hear in America.  Definitely worth a listen.

You can get the album digitally here.

Thanks to Twitter, I just got this update from Samantha Crain (@sjcrain, for those looking to follow her) “my work so far this morning http://bit.ly/1Cyf4“.  According to her tumblr blog:

so i bought myself a little set up and am going to try to teach myself how to do this…i learned a little bit a few years ago but don’t remember much of it and all the recordings i did were like 1 and 2 tracks…all these demos will be good practice for when it comes time to do the film composing i’ve got lined up…

so hear is my first attempt at a protools session in 3 years, and my first attempt at a protools session over 2 tracks ever…haha…

Her talent never ceases to amaze me.

Radiohead releases new song, “These are my twisted words” for free

These Are My Twisted Words

Sometimes I think, why bother with updating about Radiohead news?  I mean, most of their fans are so dedicated that they know about this stuff before it happens, so to write anything about it is already old news.  But it’s Monday and I am feeling crazy and this song feels just about right to start off the week.  Ominous and looming, Thom Yorke lets the drums and guitars build the tension for 2 minutes, then finally lets his vocals seep into the song, trying his best to bury them under the instruments.  Makes sense considering the lyrics:

These are my twisted words
When I feel you still walking
I know I should not look down
But I’m so sick of just talking

When are you coming back?
I just can’t handle it
When are you coming back?
I just can’t handle it

When are you coming back?
I just can’t stand it
I just can’t handle it
