Dead Man’s Bones

Dead Man's Bones - Dead Man's BonesI was first introduced to Ryan Gosling with everyone’s most beloved racial reconciliation football movie, Remember the Titans.  While he did stand out to me, he was nothing more than the goofy white kid that liked to dance and who nobly gave up his position to the faster black kid.  I had no idea that he would quickly become one of the actors I most respect, the kind of guy that I would go see his film based solely on the fact that he is in it.  Now if you’re bewildered by that statement, you probably have only seen him in the Notebook, which if you have any disdain for that film, I guarantee it has nothing to do with Gosling.  And if you want to know what I am talking about, just go and get Half Nelson or Lars and the Real Girl, both great films and Gosling is excellent, dare I say Oscar-worthy in both. While I haven’t seen him in anything since 2007’s Lars, he is still finding ways to amaze and entertain me.

In his most recent artistic endeavor, Ryan Gosling has teamed up with Zach Shields to form an indie rock band. When the two first met back in 2005, they discovered that they shared a similar obsession with ghosts, which naturally led to the writing of a play about a “monster-ghost-love-story.”  But when they ran into financial setbacks for the production of their play, they decided to take the songs they had and turn them into an album, thus Dead Man’s Bones was formed.  With the help of producer Tim Anderson (I’m a Robot) and the Silverlake Conservatory Children’s Choir, they’ve managed to create one of the creepiest, and yet most enjoyable records of the year.
