Sometimes I see a music video and I can’t wait until Monday to post it. Like this one, for instance:

Here in no particular order, are three of my favorite songs that been fully featured in a television show. The episodes didn’t have just 30 second clips, but the director took the risk of playing a song in its entirety, and actually pulled it off.
1. Snow Patrol – You Could Be Happy
Smallville Season 6 – “Promise”
I thought this was a great way to open such a pivotal and emotional episode. The lyrics of this song fit so well and helped move the audience quickly into the emotional state of distress that Clark is going through on the day of Lana and Lex’s wedding. I seriously loved this episode and it wouldn’t have been half as good without this fantastic opening track.
2. Colin Hay – Overkill (Acoustic)
Scrubs Season 2 – “My Overkill”
Scrubs continues to be one of the funniest shows on television. Even in their eighth season and with a network change they can hardly create an episode that doesn’t make me laugh. But the reason I own every season on dvd, is not so that I can watch Dr. Dorian dance in a patient room filled with 99 Red Balloons to the Nena song of the same title (although I can’t help but laugh out loud everytime I watch that scene). Rather it is because they are not afraid to tackle some of the more serious and less fun aspects of being in a relationship and working in a hospital. While it is still worth a few laughs, this great opening to the second season is a great example of that.
3. Led Zeppelin – Babe I’m Gonna Leave You
One Tree Hill Season 3 – “The Show Must Go On”
I was really disappointed that I was unable to find a video for this one. I thought it was pretty incredible the way they wrapped up their entire season with this six and half minute song playing in the background. It doesn’t distract from, but rather adds to the dramatic effect of this cliff-hanging closer.
This is the greatest remix I really missed last year! I’m so sorry!
The best part of this remix, is it’s not really a remix.

Thats right. It’s probably closer in the truest definition to a mash-up than to a remix. The verse from I’m a Lady was removed and in it’s place we get Amanda Blank laying down the first verse of I Need Love by LL Cool J albeit with some modified lyrics, probably because the original sings the song from the male perspective, and I’m not sure that a girl singing a guy part would sound quite right.

Santigold – I’m a Lady (Diplo mix ft. Amanda Blank)
This mix is beautiful, no doubt about it. But calling it a remix is just weird to me… because this song is not I’m a Lady, it just uses part of it.
I really wanted to do an audio version of this week post, but I really didn’t have the time to. Perhaps I still will one day, but I’ve been so busy building a fancy new part of the site to house Podcast versions of our weekly features.
Fun fact: While working on this post, I listen to the song 18 times in the course of an hour.

P.S. anyone able to decipher the german/russian/whatever is at the beginning of the track? and then maybe translate it?

On a note completely unrelated to this video or band…
Next Monday I will have a new Bloody Interview from the fantastic singer-songwriter Greg Laswell. Needless to say, I am pretty excited about the oppurtunity to talk with him, mostly so I can ask him what it was like to work with Elijah Wood.
