RW: Pain That I’m Used To

Perhaps my favorite remix of all time, and I haven’t posted it. I know that’s what I said about The Stills, but it’s true again.

“A Pain That I’m Used To” by Depeche Mode

In it’s own right, I think the original is bad. Real bad, I can’t stand thirty seconds of it. But this remix? I could listen for hours!

This remix is done by legendary remixer Jacques Lu Cont, and his work is magic.

I first heard this song on the soundtrack for FIFA World Cup 2006, and have been enthralled ever since, and yes this is some good football music.

This piece stands on it’s own legs, and really doesn’t require any introduction.

Devotchka in Video Game Commercial

The first time I watched this commercial a couple weeks ago during Monday Night Football it was literally breathtaking.  Something about the contrast between the dark and gloomy and violent picture on the screen with possibly the most gorgeously orchestrated intro to a song I have ever heard was just mesmerizing.  Now I still have no desire to go out and buy this new violent video game.  But at least now I have heard of it and know what it is, and if I were a big gamer this would have probably moved into the top slot on my to-buy list.  This is exactly what a commercial should be.  It still blows my mind that we tons of crappy commercials out there when they see how effective a commercial is that is done well.  Because not only do people remember the commercial, but in some cases, the commercial takes a leap of its own and makes its way into other medias and then the company gets tons of exposure that they aren’t paying for.  So the moral of the story is use a Devotchka song if you make a commercial.  Or at least do something creative to help it stand above the rest.  Here is the commercial and song for your viewing and listening pleasure.

Jimmy Fallon Reveals House Band

So Jimmy Fallon has started a blog in an effort to build up his upcoming take over of Late Night on March 2nd.  Apparently every night from now on Fallon is going to do a little webisode that he will upload onto his blog at 12:30.  The majority of what he’ll be doing on them is answering his viewers questions.  Yeah, so nothing to get too excited about.  And you know I’m not too sure what I think about the one SNL cast member who could never make it through a sketch without laughing being a talk-show host.  But one thing I did find interesting was who he chose to be his band.  That’s right they are already a band, and one you’ve most likely heard of.

That’s right The Roots are going to be playing live on Late Night with Jimmy Kimmel every night.  How weird is that.  That seems to be reason enough that it won’t tank after just one season.  Although I wonder how long they’ll want to do that.  What would be cool though is if after a season then he gets another band to come and do it for a year.  I wouldn’t doubt it if after this news there are a a bunch of bands contacting the other evening and late night hosts about becoming a permanent feature on their show.

Anyway, props to Jimmy for getting The Roots to join his crew.  Maybe he will continue to bring artists with actual talent on his show as guests every night.  I’m not getting my hopes up though. The one band that popped into his head as he was showing where the band would play on his model studio was Green Day.  Well here are a few tracks from Rising Down, the newest release from The Roots.
