Vote for the Lips!

By Nathan | September 14, 2008

So I just found out via Stereogum that my current state of residence is taking a poll to decide the Official State of Oklahoma Rock Song.  And of course there is a Flaming Lips song on the ballot.  “Do You Realize,” one of my favorite tracks by the Norman natives is up against 9 other famous songs penned by Oklahomans.  And believe it or not the voting is open to the public, regardless of where you live.  So please go vote! You could even vote for Elvis if you want. Just please help save our state from the All-American Rejects.

Why? Because I love covers and can’t resist an opportunity to post one.

I had a conversation today about how “Move Along” is a nearly perfect pop song. From the intro to the hook to the segues to the drumbeat, I dare you to pick out one aspect of the song that’s awful.

I will defend it forever. I voted for the Lips, cause that would be awesome to have an existential crisis as Oklahoma’s state rock song. But if “Move Along” wins, I’ll be happy.

yet again I am reminded of why Oklahoma will always be better than Texas- LIPS! (I moved recently, right into the path of Ike.) Voted. I will always love them. ^_^
