Cat Power To the Rescue!

I just recently discovered that the gorgeous singer/songwriter Chan Marshall, who records and performs under the moniker Cat Power, decided to take a hiatus from making music earlier this year in order to try and change the world. She had teamed up with Scott Harrison’s relief agency charity:water, to help bring sustainable sources of water in Africa.  The organization sells bottles of spring water for $20 each and then all the proceeds go towards building wells that will help a village have clean water for 15 years.

I just thought I would recognize and applaud Marshall for her efforts and do my part in helping spotlight her charity of choice.  And to you let you all know that she is apparently back in the music business because she is due to release a new EP in September.

To my delight Marshall has released more than one album full of covers.  The latest being one of the few albums of 2008 that I haven’t been disappointed with.  But surprisingly enough, the song I have decided to share with you today is one of  the two songs of of Jukebox that Marshall wrote herself.  When I first listened to it, I assumed that it was a Bob Dylan cover, because even just the tone and inflection in her voice reminds of Dylan.  But then I realized that couldn’t be true, because her covers rarely have anything in common with the original other than the words.  It all became very clear though when I realized that as the title suggests, it is not a cover but rather a tribute to the great Bobby Dylan.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

And for those of you like me that are always looking for a great cover, here is one of my favorites off of The Covers Record.
