Ari-

In general, I agree with your problems with hip-hop. Most rap/hip hop is obnoxiously cliche/repetitive/shallow. However, and I am not sure if this is even what you are suggesting, I think Snob Scrilla defies most of these stereotypes. More that most artists in the genre, he demonstrates a greater attention to crafting a melody that moves, as opposed to the standard static beat you hear in most hip-hop. And lyrically, he offers far more than the standard "I want to sex you up hott baby" that appears all too prevalently in modern rap. Here are some examples of what I consider "introspective lyrics rich with metapors and ambiguity":

From "There You Go Again":

"And it seems your favorite thing in the world is killing dreams/ either you're with me or not, theirs no in between/ cause loving you's a drug and I'm a fiend"

Perhaps its just me, but I feel like we have all been in this relationship where one person has ambitions that the other feels won't work within the relationship.

From "Chasing Ghosts"

A song about the nations/society's unfortunate addiction to money (which in reality is just a piece of paper with a picture of a dead president on it) and all the problems that come from this addiction (i.e. drugs, prostitution, cyclical poverty).

"The future's looking daunting/We've all been affected by the ghetto haunting/The future's looking daunting/We all live with the presidential haunting/Where cash rules, forgo benevolence/These days its all 'bout them dead presidents"

You said you almost like him, which means to me he is on the cusp of making your ears bleed. Give him another try.

But, if you still just aren't digging it but you are itching for some good hip hop, give my favorite artist of the genre, P.O.S., a listen. He will blow your mind.

Thanks for the heads up. They are indeed good -- I almost like them.

My problem with hip-hop is twofold: 1) not enough melodic content (it doesn't have to be in singing), and 2) unrelatable lyrical content. I like introspective lyrics rich with metaphors and ambiguity.

If you know of such artists -- I'm all ears!
