so do you remember back in the summer of 2006 when you couldn’t turn the radio on without hearing gnarls barkley’s hit song crazy. so yeah i liked it, but obviously i got very tired of it. but i was really glad that many great cover songs came out of it. all of a sudden everyone and their mom was playing this song live. so today i thought that i would share with you my favorite version of the song, performed by ray lamontagne. if you don’t know ray, you are truly missing out. one of the best singer/songwriter types out there. so check out his laid-back acoustic version of the catchiest songs of 2006.

New Teitur Album Out

i just learned this morning that the artist that brought me my favorite album of 2003, which included one of the songs that teresa and i chose to have played in wedding, has just recently released a new album called the singer. teitur (pronounced “tighter”), is a very melancholy and melodic singer/songwriter from the faroe islands. although i felt that he unfortunately fell into the trap of the sophomore slump, i am still very eager to purchase the new album. here are the two songs that i have been able to scrounge up. this first one is a very strange video of a song that he did i suppose in his native tongue, whatever that is. not sure what i think of it yet. but i am sure a full review can be expected to appear once i can get my hands it.

and here is another mp3 i was able to scrounge up…it’s a little more upbeat than his earlier stuff, but enjoyable none the less.  here’s to hoping that blood flows from your ears.

ACL Preview – City and Colour

so i had mentioned about a month ago, when the acl lineup was announced, that i would start writing about the artists i think you would like to see if you were to attend. well here is my first attempt at fulfilling that promise. i actually found this band through the austin city limits web-site. i had never heard of them before, and come to find out it’s not actually a “them,” rather, it is a guy named dallas green, who used to be the lead singer of a band called alexisonfire, and this is his first attempt at a solo project. now if you have heard of alexisonfire (pronounced “alexis on fire”), you might be surprised that i would be writing about this guy, cause i am pretty sure they are a hard-core band that is way out of my taste. but this new project of his can be easily categorized as an acoustic singer/songwriter gig. his sophomore release, bring me your love, which just came out earlier this year, is done so well and and his voice sounds so confident in this role, one would assume that he’s a veteran of the indie-acoustic scene. but i think it is only a matter of time before he becomes a staple in the indie geeks ipod. so if you are lucky enough to attend acl this september, make sure to catch city and colour. you won’t be disappointed.

here is the music video for the first single, and probably my favorite track off of the new album.

and one for the road. i hope thine ears bleedeth.

Bunnies Galore!

apparently a sequel to the cult classic film donnie darko is in the works. but richard kelly, who both wrote and directed the original wants nothing to do with s. darko, which will be revolving around the character of samantha, donnie’s younger sister. production on the film begins may 19th and daveigh chase will be returning to continue her role as samantha. director chris fisher says that donnie will not be making an appearance in the film but that there will be meteors and bunnies. which brings me to my next topic.

mates of state is coming out with a new album on teusday. and in promotion of re-arrange us, they have created a rather intriguing video that includes bunnies on mopeds and many other strange oddities. fortunately strange or weird are not my words of choice to describe “get better,” the song the video was made for. it is so addicting and lovely and gorgeous and powerful and well, i’ll just let you watch and listen for yourself.

here is another great song off their new album they have decided to give away for free
